Punjab Schools winter News: In a major relief for students and parents amid the freezing temperatures, the Punjab Government has announced an extension of the ongoing winter holidays. The Department of School Education has issued fresh orders stating that schools across the state will remain closed for an additional period.
This decision comes in response to the severe cold wave and dense fog currently gripping the region.

New School Opening Date
According to the latest update, the winter break has been extended until January 7, 2026.
Previously, schools were expected to reopen earlier, but the persistent drop in temperature and foggy conditions prompted the administration to revise the schedule to ensure the safety and health of students.
Which Schools Are Included?
The order is comprehensive and applies to all educational institutions in the state. This includes:
- Government Schools
- Private Aided Schools
- Private Recognized Schools
- All other private institutions
This means that no regular classes will be held during this extended period for any of these categories.
Official Instructions
The order, signed by the Secretary of School Education, Anindita Mitra (IAS), clarifies that this extension is a continuation of the winter break announced earlier in December. Parents are advised to keep their children indoors and protected from the harsh weather during these days.
